these were deposited by the Department of Agriculture.

The condition of that part of the study-series of skins which is accessible is satisfactory, as regards preservation.  The greater portion of the collection, however, has been inaccessible for about four months, owing to the want of trays and racks.

The entire series of [[underline]]Tamias asiaticus[[/underline]] belonging to the Museum, including 128 skins and 58 skulls, was sent to Dr. J. A. Allen for study.  Before sending these specimens the Curator personally examined and verified every label.
