3. WHAT PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE IN CARING FOR THE COLLECTIONS UNDER YOUR CUSTODY, i.e., IN THEIR PRESERVATION AND INSTALLATION?

Practically nothing was done in the Exhibition-hall during the year, the Curator having been out of the service of the Museum for about 6 months, at the beginning of the year, & engaged for the rest in bringing up back work.

A considerable number of specimens were removed from the cases for the Atlanta Exhibition during the absence of the Curator, and the assistant in charge of the department & the Curator in charge of the exhibits died before any list [[strikethrough]]was made. Such specimens as were[[/strikethrough]] with numbers was made. Such specimens as were returned were checked on a list of species made out of the late Mr. Earle and apparently all that went returned in good order.

Three species were mounted for the Exhibition,- a Dorcas Gazelle, a young Camel & a Mouse.

The taxidermists made up for the study series 172 skins, partly from the vats and partly from the stock of imperfectly prepared skins on hand.

^[[checkmark symbol]] The type of Chanler's Reedbuck was put on a new stand and added to the exhibition-series.

^[[checkmark symbol]] A young lion & young tiger were mounted and put on exhibition.

The work of putting [[strikethrough]] on [[/strikethrough]] the collection of small skulls in boxes was carried on during the year.

Eight new quarter unit storage cases for the laboratory were under construction during the year.

Four large full-ength shelf storage cases were built in the 3d story laboratory.

The accumulations of the year were entered, labelled and cared for.
