6. WHAT EXPLORATIONS (1) BY THE MUSEUM AND (2) UNDER OTHER AUSPICES, HAVE RESULTED IN ENRICHING THE COLLECTIONS UNDER YOUR CARE?

[[handwritten]]

(1.) Mr. D. W. Prentiss, jr. was detailed to accompany me to the Prybilof Ids. Alaska in the summer of 1895 & in the three months spent there we collected 88 mammals, a large number of plants, some anatomical specimens, insects, ^[[birds]] and other natural history objects. Among the mammals are 15 Fur seals of varying ages, including a very fine old bull. These were intended to form part of a group & measurements were made with that in view & the skins were taken off so as to be mountable in the best manner.

(2.) Mr. Wm. Palmer made an expedition to the Dismal Swamp, Virginia and collected a few mammals.

Dr. W. L. Abbott continued his travels in Kashmir and sent some interesting mammals from that State. He also made a collecting trip in Southeastern Madagascar and sent to the Museum a splendid series of skins of Lemurs & of the insectivores peculiar to that island.

Mr. R. E. Call has explored the caves of Kentucky & obtained in the Mammoth Cave a very large number of bats for the Museum.
