circe throwing the ridge or peak out in sharp contrast.  No glaciers could be made out the snows either being too fresh covering all trace of ice or else the distance (40 miles) too great.  The peak & all the mountains nearby are very steep the ridges being mere knife blade affairs with great precipices yawning [[strikethrough]] on the [[/strikethrough]] below.  In some places the cliffs are quite perpendicular & black no snow being able to lie on them.  The play of fleecy white clouds or gray mist before the mountain was very picturesque.  This mountain is quite 6000 feet higher than the highest peaks I have
