March 9th., 1949.

Dear F-G:

I am getting this note off in somewhat of a hurry to tell you of the sailing on the SS QUEEN ELIZABETH this evening, of an Associate Art Critic on the New York Times -- Sam Hunter.

Our first contact with young Hunter (he is 25 years old) was when he submitted a painting to one of our "25 and Under" exhibitions. Shortly thereafter he obtained the post on the New York Times, where he has championed the cause of modern art.

He is considered a very brilliant young man and regarded as having a very bright future. Incidentally he is going to Europe on a Scholarship awarded him by Williams College, and after leaving Paris, plans to spend two years or so writing in Italy. He hopes while in Paris to write a book on artists since Picasso and already has an outlet through the New York publishers, Scribner's. If you are still in touch with any of the young artists, I know he would be grateful for an opportunity to meet and exchange views with them. Naturally he has been given introductions left and right but possibly in talking to him you may think of other people it might be mutually interesting that he meet in view of his writing intentions.

I should warn you, perhaps, that he is excessively shy and self-effacing. Otherwise the matter is in your hands, except that I might add he is a very good friend of Mrs. Parker.
