15th April 1934.  After a fine warm night & morning a cold SE. wind came in from sea with rain, later developing into a severe gale.
Went to "the pits" at Kilbarrack, Co. DU, with E O'M. in morning: in Museum in afternoon.
11.0 till 1.0 PM. "Pits", N. of railway, Kilbarrack Co. DU.

All shaken out of grass or reeds ([[underlined]] Typha [[/underlined]]) at edge of ponds or on banks thereof.
[[underlined]] Hemiteles [[/underlined]] sp. 3 [[2 female symbols]]: in reeds & grass on edge of pond.
[[underlined]] Hormius monilicornis [[/underlined]] [[female symbol]], shaken out of dry grass roots
2 black Proctos. with last.
1 small black Chalcid / or Procto.
4 brachypterous red & green Chalcids.
1 winged green Chalcid.

Large flock of Swallows & Sand Martins arrived about noon & flew over pond for 15 minutes & then disappeared.  Chiff-chaff heard at St Anne's.

13.

22nd April 1934. A fine day spoiled by heavy showers, hail, &c.
Drove to top of oak-wood at Clara, Co WI, via Glencaly & glen N. of Drumdangan: stopped for a few minutes in last place. (=1) at 11.45 AM. & swept a couple of Campoplegids off Vaccinium, a reddish [[female symbol]] Cynipid, a [[female symbol]] [[underlined]] Aspilota [[/underlined]] by stream & beat a [[female symbol] [[underlined]] Dolerus aeneus [[/underlined]] off Salix. 
Then on to top of Clara, oakwood (=2), & walked down to "Osmunda glade" & environs, but heavy showers spoiled collecting. [[underlined]] Salix [[/underlined]] & all plants very backward!
[[underlined]] Bombus lucorum [[/underlined]] [[2 female symbols]] frequent at [[underlined]] Vaccinium [[/underlined]] flowers at 2.
[[underlined]] B. jonellus [[/underlined]] 1 [[female symbol]] certainly identified with last.
[[underlined]] Psithyrus distinctus [[/underlined]]  1 [[female symbol]] at [[underlined Vaccinium [[/underlined]] at 2.
[[underlined]] Vespa [[/underlined]] sp.? 1 [[female symbol]] seen at 2.
[[underlined]] Andrena lapponica [[/underlined]] ? [[female symbol]] & [[underlined]] Nomada ruficornis [[/underlined]] ? seen by M.D.S. on path above the sand flat.

[[underlined]] Amauronematus tunicatus [[/underlined]] [[insertion]] - RCLP. in litt. 17.12.34. [[/insertion]] 2 [[2 female symbols]] beaten off [[underlined]] Salix [[/underlined]] at 2.
[[underlined]] Pimpla maculator [[/underlined]] [[female symbol]] beaten out of fir at 2 (not kept.)
[[underlined]] P. elegans [[/underlined]] [[female symbol]] beaten off of oak branch on sand flat at 2.
[[underlined]] P. examinator [[/underlined]] [[female symbol]] beaten out of ivy at 2.
[[underlined]] Lissonota carbonaria [[/underlined]] 1 [[male symbol]] beaten out of Salix at 2.

[[side note]] From upper oak wood brought home bored branches broken off oak trees. From which em. 1 [[male symbol]] [[underlined]] Ephialtes [[/underlined]] on 21st May 34; a [[male symbol]] [[underlined]] Crabro clavipes [[/underlined]] & a Malthodes beetle on 4.6.34, & another on 6.6.34, on which latter date emerged a [[female symbol]] [[underlined]] Crabro clavipes [[/underlined]] & a [[female symbol]] Cryptid ick [[insertion]]( = a small form of [[underlined]] Demopheles caliginosus [[/insertion]]) which I suspect may have been parasitic as it emerged the following day.
