27th April 1934. The first fine day for a week, but wind E - NE, fairly strong & cold. Afternoon.
Drove Rev. Gregg & son to Leixlip station, Co. KD., so that they could collect [[underlined]] Amphipeplea glutinosa [[/underlined]] & [[underlined]] Neritina fluviatilis [[/underlined]] in the Royal Canal. Spent a couple of hours in hot sun in marshes on left bank of Rye Water, above the aqueduct & here saw or took (unless otherwise stated):-
[[underlined]] Bombus terrestris & lucorum [[/underlined]] numerous [[2 female symbols]] seen.
[[underlined]] Andrena minutula [[/underlined]] 2 [[2 male symbols]] on clay escarpment E. of river.
[[underlined]] A. gwynana [[/underlined]] [[2 female symbols]] seen, 1 taken. 
[[underlined]] A. clarkella [[/underlined]]? 1 [[female symbol]] seen. [[underlined]] A. albicans [[/underlined]] [[2 male symbols]] abundant at willows.
[[underlined]] A. jacobi [[/underlined]] 1 very fresh [[female symbol]] beaten off willow.
[[underlined]] Nomada marshamella [[/underlined]] 1 [[male symbol]] seen. [[underlined]] A. bifida [[/underlined]] 1 [[male symbol]] seen. 
[[underlined]] Sphecodes affinis [[/underlined]] 1 [[female symbol]] on Taraxacum.
1 [[male symbol]] Ick. [[vol?]] 1 or 2?
[[underlined]] Blacus [[/underlined]] 1 [[female symbol]] swept in marsh.
2 Proctos.
1 Cynipid.

[[underlined]] Dolerus nigratus [[/underlined]] 1 [[female symbol]] swept off Salix along canal 1/4 mile E. of aqueduct.

Willow Warbler & Sedge Warbler heard.

29th April 1934. A fine day after a dull morning, & much sun, but cool & strong chilly E.-NE. wind.
Drove to Raheen, between Dunlavin & Baltinglass, Co. WI., but found everything very backward & at least a fortnight later than last year, in fact practically no sign of growth in the marsh & little to sweep. On way home stopped for tea at sand-cliff over R. Liffey, just below Ballymore Eustace, Co. KD., where vegetation much more advanced.
Marsh by stream, &c., Raheen, Co. WI. 11-30 AM. till 3.30 PM.
[[underlined]] Bombus lucorum [[/underlined]] - many [[2 female symbols]] seen at willows.
[[underlined]] B. agrorum [[/underlined]] several seen ([[2 female symbols]]) & at least one at primrose.
[[underlined]] B. muscorum [[/underlined]] [[female symbol]] reported by George.
[[underlined]] B. distinguendus [[/underlined]] [[female symbol]] reported by George & M.D.S. & later one undoubted specimen seen by me sunning itself on bank N. of stream.  [[underlined]] Salius fuscus [[/underlined]] 1 [[female symbol]] seen in marsh.
[[underlined]] Dolerus nigratus [[/underlined]] ? 1 [[male symbol]] swept by stream near old road.
[[underlined]] D. aeneus [[/underlined]] 1 [[male symbol]] swept near last. 
[[underlined]] Sagaritis [[/underlined]] 1 [[male symbol]] swept in marsh
[[underlined]] Hemiteles [[/underlined]] 
[[underlined]] Centeterus [[/underlined]] ? [[female symbol]] swept just below bridge (where car left)
