118.) 23rd July 1934. A poor day after a fine morning. No sun after 9 AM. & misty rain after lunch & nothing out. Drove via Sneem, Gearha Bridge & Moll's Gap to Upper Lake, Killarney. Took one [[underlined]] Exochus flavomarginatus [[/underlined]] at stream E of Sneem, then collected at W. end of Loosecaunagh L., SK. where we had lunch & swept a few small things near Derrycunnihy ^ [[insertion]] NK. [[/insertion]], but otherwise did no collecting. Walked up old road to Kenmare from Galway's Bridge to look for Scully's [[underlined]] Carex hibernica [[/underlined]] & probably located its site about 100 yards below where old road crosses tributary stream (i.e. tributary to Upper Lake), on left bank: here saw [[underlined]] Carex aquatilis [[/underlined]] but only one head of flower & a little lower down a huge tall sedge, 3 to 4 feet high, with flower spikes suggesting gigantic form of [[underlined]] goodenowii [[/underlined]] or a cross between that & [[underlined]] aquatilis [[/underlined]]. [[strikethrough]] Root of this plant brought home! [[/strikethrough]] There are several clumps on river bank, where it is sunk below level of bog, but the best is amongst Bog Myrtle a couple of yards from the river. Later. Praeger agrees that Scully's plant is a hybrid [[underlined]] aquatilis [[/underlined]] x [[underlined]] goodenowii [[/underlined]] ! A.W.S. [[end page]] [[start page]] 119.) 23.7.34 cont.
