106./ 29.8.37 aft. cont. Agher, Co. ME. cont. Proctos, kept. 11 = 31st August 1937 (Tuesday!). An almost perfect day for insects only for a "jam" with heavy rain at about 10 A.M. which lasted about 15 minutes & thoroughly drenched the vegetation - Wind E.-S.E. in Dublin, S.W. in Glenasmole & further inland. After 10.30 no rain, considerable very hot sun, sultry & warm, & owing to S.W. wind great shelter along W. side of the reservoirs. Collected by sweeping & with sucker in four areas:- Glenasmole, Co. DU. 1. Under trees just after rain stopped 10.30 till 11.30 AM on W. side of lower reservoir beside hut; where also I secreted a "trap" (but the rats eat the bait! A.W.S. 19/9/37.) to catch Phorids & their parasites (Aspilota spp.). 107./ 31.8.37 cont. Glenasmole, Co. DU. cont. 2. Under trees in hollow just above Mr. Moore's house & between that & wooden footbridge, where there is much Cow Parsnip growing. 11.30 till 1.0 P.M. Still too wet to sweep properly! 3. Under trees on high ground between path & boundary fence above "2" & below spill-way from upper reservoir. 1.0 till 2.30 P.M. 4. W side of upper reservoir, along "foreshore" below winter level of water & especially at upper end of reservoir where rank vegetation had sprung up on "dry" bed of lake; about willows (S. cinerea & S. caprea) on edge of lake; & a few swept under larch plantation at head of reservoir. 2.30 till 5.30 P.M. [[marginalia]] Daisy collected many fungi on this date, which were brought home & kept in motor house! And on 19.9.37 a [[female]] Aspilota was found in this box, but? out of fungi or from garden. A.W.S. [[/marginalia]] Bombus lucorum fresh [[female symbol]] seen. B. lapidarius 1 fresh [[female symbol]]. B. derhamellus 1 [[male symbol]] seen at 4. B. agrorum [[male symbol, male symbol]] very common on Purple Loosestrife flower at 4. Vespa rufa - 1 [[male symbol]] kept, & sylvestris [[male symbol, male symbol]] seen on Anjelica. Halictus albipes [[male symbol, male symbol]] seen. Ametastegia glabrata [[male symbol, male symbol]] & [[female symbol, female symbol]] at 4 Black sp. [[strikethrough]] female symbol [[/strikethrough]] at 4. = Pristiphora ruficornis 1 [[male symbol]] ? Labelled 9.3.39 at [[?]] 26 from 1, 18 from 2, 29 from 3, & 28 from 4.
