25th August 1938. 

A very nice day, no wind but slight W. breeze, warm and with considerable sun in Dublin, though less in the hills.  In afternoon drove to Athdown, i.e. Kippure Lodge, and swept for 2 hours between road & R. Liffey & W. of Kippure lodge.  Later went on to Poulaphuca & picked up George & went to Hollywood Glen:  then home.

Scrub, marsh &c., W. of Kippure Lodge, Athdown, Co. WI.  3.30 - 5.30 P.M.

Most insects swept under trees along course of tributary stream along Kippure Lodge boundary, but some taken in scrub & some along edges of swamp by R. Liffey.  Insects very rare in open, but abundant under trees, especially Proctos.

Bombus agrorum & lucorum seen, rare.
Leptothorax acervorum  1 [[juvenile symbol]] swept.
Many winged Myrmicas swept, spp. not ascertained
Formica [[?Jurea]] winged [[female symbol]] seen, many [[juvenile symbol, juvenile symbol]]
