152.

21st May 1939.

A curious day, but fine on whole.
Early morning very fine, forenoon very threatening but dry, afternoon drizzly with sun at same time, very hot, later cool & dry. Wind light, SW. After rain early in previous night.

Glenasmole, DU. 11.30 till 4 P.M.

Almost all collected below lower dam & on right bank of river, where 3 or 4 years ago a big slip occurred & covered much nice ground. This slip now covered with young birch, alder & willow scrub & quite nice ground. A few insects collected in 2nd coomb on E. side of lower reservoir in afternoon, where we went to try to re-find Cephalanthera ensifolia, but failed. The place much changed since 19-- owing to slip & difficult to recognize the exact spot.
[41 specimens kept & these labelled 27/12/40 AWS.]

Bombus lucorum & B. agrorum ♀♀, only a few seen.
Vespa vulgaris & austriaca ♀♀ seen.

[Except ants & Dryineds no other aculeates seen all day, but not looked for.]
