28th June 1939. 

A day of showers & some wind with glass down three points.  Very little collecting possible, except during one burst of strong sun (spoiled by S.W. gale) when the bumbles were taken about noon. 

Took bus (11.36 AM) to the Boat of Garten & walked via Kincardine & Sluggan Pass to Loch Morlich & home to Aviemore  by Coylum Bridge.  All Parasitica taken in Sluggan Pass! 

Bombus lapponicus  ☿☿ common on raspberry flowers between Boat of Garten & Kincardine & also seen near the latter place.
B. muscorum  several ♀♀ & ☿☿
B. lucorum  ♀♀ & ☿☿
Crabro varius  1♂ on birch in pass
Vespa austriaca  several ♀♀ seen
V. norvegica  1♀ near Kincardine.

Tenthredo arenata  1 on pignut near Kincardine

28.6.39, cont.  A ♀ Hemiteles areator group taken in bathroom at Cairnalan, Aviemore, E1.

29th June 1939.  Took ♀ Vespa austriaca - very dark var. in dining room at Cairnalan, Aviemore at 8 A.M.

A very squally day, almost a gale from W-NW, with skiffs of rain, cool.

Left Aviemore by morning train (8.49) & went to Torridon, W. Ross-shire, via Inverness & Aghnasheen [[Achnasheen]].  In late afternoon walked along path (through woods at Ben Damph Ho.) that leads to Shieldaig.

Stayed at Mrs. Mackenzie's "Bay View", Annat, Torridon, on S. shore of bay about a mile from village of Torridon.
