15th Oct. 1941.

After a dry cold night a dull morning, turning gradually to drizzle & then heavy rain & almost a gale from SE. in evening.

At 9.0 AM (summer time) when crossing St. Stephen's Green, Dublin, saw a Bombus lucorum (I think a ♂︎) fly busily from Dahlia to Dahlia, although there had been no sun & the night had been very cold, with several showers the previous day & 13th very wet & cold.

19th Oct. 1941.

A very mild day, with much hot sun & no rain till evening, but half-a-gale of wind (W).

In afternoon rode to Saggart & up the west side of the Slade, now to a large extent ruined as it is used as a motor-cycle training centre by the army as well as the "crack-riders" & the east side of it all ploughed up by these asses. Some of the western side is till fairly as it was. Swept for a few minutes along stream & on top of bank (W. side) just above where old coach road joins that from Saggart & found insects very plentiful, but only kept about a dozen, the others put in paper.
