1st June 1942.
A day of drizzle & S.W. gale: did not collect during the day: barometer rose steadily & gleams of sun over Westport suggested fine weather further inland.

2nd June 1942.

Glass continued to rise steadily, though wind if anything stronger & bay filled with "white horses". Although wind still S.W. & off shore at Old Head; no rain but a wet mist at times which did not penetrate the woods, in the shelter of which sweeping proved quite good. Sun over Westport all day indicated reason of mist, as arriving cyclists reported SE. wind between Castlebar & Westport, while it was SW along coast & the islands shrouded in misty rain all day.

In forenoon did an hours sweep along stream at foot of field in front of hotel (= 1); after lunch walked over hill to coast (?) a mile S. of Old Head to Derrylahan (The Smooth Oak!) & back by coast & wood-road; after afternoon tea did two hours sweeping in woods, first by roadside of new road & a little on old road below same (= 2), secondly E. of old road & chiefly about the birch glade found by Daisy on 30.5.42 (= 3).
