23rd July 1942.  

A fairly fine day with rising glass & strong W-NW wind, after a gale & some rain on previous two days:  not much sun but quite warm.

In afternoon rode to Phoenix Park & spent two hours sweeping in three areas at west end.

Phoenix Park, Co. DU.
1 = upper part of Furry Glen just below septic tank & house, down to road:  most taken amongst mint &c. just below the tank.
2 = under & along shelter belt at W. limit of park for 1/4 mile S. of Farmlea Gate (i.e. Gate between Castleknock & Knockmaroon Gates!).
3 = about springs & on swampy floor [[strikethrough]] of small valley running into [[/strikethrough]] of S. end of Furry Glen [[strikethrough]] from woods [[/strikethrough]].

Vespa vulgaris ☿ the only aculeate seen; at 2.
