19.10.42, Cont. Lugnacullia, WI., cont.

Sax. umbrosa cliff at 1700 N alt.

Also took one small spider at cairn on summit but did not collect any insects except the coleoptera.

Coming over Cloghenagh we flushed a flock of birds which I think were Golden Plover in winter plumage, very white underneath & some cried Pee-ewe.

20th. Oct.

1942 A fine day, but fresher & colder than 19th. Wind more N.W. A few clouds otherwise all sunny after 12 noon, but misty rain at 9 A.M. left all grass &c. in open dripping, so that sweeping only possible under trees.

Set some insects & walked a mile down valley before lunch, but did not collect, saw Vespa vulgaris at Fuschia flower & 1☿ Bombus lucorum.

In afternoon went to Drumgoff Brook & after showing Miss Shackelton (or Carlow) where the Filmy fern, Hym. peltatum grew, collected till nearly 6 P. M.

Saw Hypericum elodes in marsh just E. of the brook
