11th Sept. 1943.

Another wet morning, without a breath of wind, after a night of continuous torrential rain. Cleared about noon as on previous day & by 1.30 much blue sky & very hot sun, with gentle SW. breeze. Before lunch walked up avenue to ruins of Ballinacourty House & as sun broke through mist collected for ten of 15 minutes with sucker, chiefly off Carduus arvensis (covered with Aphides); a few ichs taken on bramble near same place, i.e. S. of ruins & near S. wall of old garden. On way back along avenue saw on Scabious 13 Red Admirals, 3 Peacock & 2 Painted Lady Butterflies as well as several Speckled Woods, Whites & 1 Small Copper, = 11.9.43 (1). Clouded Yellow Butterfly seen crossing road (to W. ->) during lunch in hotel.

In afternoon rode south to Galbally & then up the Glacial in-flow channel from the west, called Glenefy. Collected by stream about 1/2 a mile W. of Galbally in Glenefy, which is in Co. Limerick. On way home turned right at top of Riversdale estate on to road on E. side of Glen of Aherlow & so back to hotel by next cross road to N.E.
