13th Sept. 1943.

A dull, warm, misty morning after another very wet night, with slight & fitful W. air & clouds W. Sun coming through cloud about 11:30 made things very hot & sticky, with many hymenoptera out.

Before lunch walked up Tipperary road from Newtown till met & took the old road through the woods, cutting off the elbow on new road; at summit took avenue back through Ballinacourty woods & so home to lunch. Collected off oaks &c. along roadside on new road & swept oak, birch, willow, &c. on way up old road, but did not collect on way down. Swept ♀︎ Bracon off patch of Bog Myrtle on heath near summit. All taken this morning labelled "Aherlow"

In afternoon, which was fine, mainly dull, warm, with faint westerly breeze, so crossed footbridge at the church, Agherlow, & went by Wilkinson farm (Woodville Ho. of Ord. Map) to road on other side of valley, & turned right; then south up boreen parallel to & E. of Clady Bridge, for about a mile to spy out the land & make plans for ascending Galtymore on the first fine day; then back to Clady Bridge & 1/2 mile west to cross road & so home to hotel at 7 P.M. Seven Clouded Yellows seen during the day!
