Glen of Aherlow, Co. ST

23rd Sept. 1943. 

A glorious day after a dull night & misty morning, with light westerly breeze;  nearly all sunny after 10 AM till 7.0 P.M.  Cleared off arrears & did not go out till 1 P.M.;  then walked up to foot of old road to Tipperary & collected on oaks, willows, &c. along roadside from & back to hotel at 2.15.  Insects taken here labelled Aherlow, [23.9.42(1)]. 

After lunch set insects till 4 P.M. & then rode on bikes to sawmill at Rossadrehid 1/2 mile S. of Drumamail Bridge, on road to Cahir, to look for a new route to Lough Muskry;  after return to hotel collected from 6.30 to 7 P.M. in field in front of ruins of Castlereagh Lodge, just E. of hotel, chiefly under trees & by the two streams, this = Aherlow, [23.9.43(2)]

Insects taken at 1.  Roadside, 1 to 2 P.M.
[Only 9 mounted (mostly bees!) & these labelled 5.2.46] 

Crabro varius ♂︎. 
Vespa vulgaris ☿☿. 
Prithyrus barbutellus a fresh ♀︎, examined in hotel, & released. 
Pr. distinctus √ a fresh ♀︎, but no larger than a good-sized ☿ Bumble.
