Barometer 30.2 after a rapid rise following a depression on 19th-20th, but steady all day; mainly dull with strong SW wind at Leixlip, but more W or even NW near Dublin; very mild, sultry almost in shelter; chilly almost in wind; with some strong sunbursts in forenoon & heavy rain to N & N.W. in evening, but we got none. Rode to Rye Water, leaving home at 10.35 & arriving at 12 noon; left Louisa Bridge at 5.35 & home at 6:45, with following wind.

Collected in three areas as follows:-

1 = On right bank of Rye Water, above Aqueduct, & chiefly at top of 2nd field & along its N. edge where small side glen.

2 = In plantation by R. Canal, 1/2 mile W. of Louisa Bridge (Mr. Mitchell's); outside same at W. end & on edge of canal (1 Dacnusa here!) & most taken in SE. corner of field NW. of plantation.

3 = W & S. sides of field (this year in wheat & 1st year grass) 1/4 mile W. of Louisa Bridge & between canal & Maynooth road, where turnips last year & many insects taken.
