GLEN OF AHERLOW TRIP.

22nd May 1944 (Monday). 

Left Dublin by 9.45 train, arrived Limerick Junction 1.20, where met by pony trap from Aherlow which took luggage.  We rode via Tipperary on bikes.  A fine day with rising glass;  cloudy in forenoon, much sun & W-breeze in afternoon, cool.  South of Tipperary town collected by sweeping in two places near Miss Mulcahy's house, just before road makes the ascent of the Slieve-na-muck ridge:-

1 = roadside 2 miles S. of Tipperary
2 = plantation (beech & oak) 1/4 mile S. of No. 1 & just S. of Miss Mulcahy's entrance gate (where stopped for afternoon tea!)

Bombus agrorum  ♀︎♀︎ very common at Bush Vetch
B. lucorum  ♀︎♀︎ - a few only.
B. hortorum  1♀︎ seen.
Andrena jacobi  ♀︎ seen.
Tenthredo temula  ♂︎ on hawthorn.
Dolerus cf. niger?  ♂︎♂︎ & ♀︎ swept but not examined closely.
Anteon sp.  ♂︎ at 1 (first seen 1944!):  mounted =
