25th May 1944.

After a stormy & wet night a fine day with strong SW. wind (rising in evening to nearly a gale when glass dropped another two points), mild, with sun nearly all day between 10 AM & 5.30 PM.

The rain very welcome as country, especially the mountains, very dry after prolonged drought. Set insects in morning, but spent half an hour before lunch in lane past church to river just W. of hotel & here collected a few hymenoptera.

After lunch about 2.10 P.M. rode across valley & left bikes at the Gorman's, as usual, & walked up to The Stone Man on heights above & W. of L. Curra: then round plateau, over the Slieva cushnabinnia of Ord. Map & on to summit of Corrignabinnia, 2697 ft. Here had tea on slope overlooking Glen of Aherlow, &c., & just below summit & in perfect shelter, while a large party of Swifts sported around us, evidently feeding on the insects swept over the ridge from the South side.
