2nd Aug. 1944. 

A very fine & warm day but with the usual E. wind along coast.

Went by bus to Dollymount & spent the day on the North Bull, where collected by sweeping in four areas, as follows

1 = edge of salt-marsh & golf links for first 1/2 mile (as far as "Curly's Farm".  10.30 AM. till 12 noon. 
2 = edge of salt marsh & golf links for mile beyond station 1.  12 noon & after lunch till 2 P.M.
3 = edge of salt-marsh & particularly along drain on edge of St. Anne's links, beyond station 2.  2 P.M. till 3.30 P.M.
[Had aft. tea at Lady Anne's Bank & after tea swept at 4]
4 = Sand-flat SE of Lady Anne's Bank, & chiefly on and around the Alder bushes.  4 till 4.45 P.M. 
[Left Lady Anne's Bank at 4.57 & reached bus at 5 P.M. & home at 5.40!]

Bombus terrestis  ☿☿ & ♂︎♂︎ seen
B. lucorum  ☿☿
B. muscorum  ☿☿
Pompilus plumbeus at 4.
Apis mellifera  ☿☿ very numerous & all seen were at flowers of Statice, which is just at its best.
Plusia gamma  fresh specimen seen at 4.

Pimpla turionellae group  ♂︎, black coxae:  not mtd.
Campoplegid very common  18 (♂︎ & ♀︎) in sucker:  all one sp.?  1♂︎ & 1♀︎ mtd. ant. ♂︎ 18, ♀︎ broken =
Bracon anthracinus  1♂︎, 1♀︎:  not mtd.
Apanteles fraternus?  2♂︎♂︎, 2♀︎♀︎:  1♂︎ & 1♀︎ mtd.
A. falcatus  ♂︎:  not mtd.
Perilitus aethiops?  1♂︎:  not mtd.
Aspilota (Synaldis) parvicornis?  ♂︎, ant. 21;  small specimen.

Dacnusa areolaris?  ♂︎.
D. "anasella" miki  4♂︎♂︎ (ant. 23, 23, 24 & broken):  Nixon in letter dated 14.1.47 says he thinks this must be a dark-legged var. of D. amasis, which to me seems most improbable!

Monoctonus caricis  ♂︎, ant. 16.
Ephedrus plagiator  ♀︎, ant. bitten off by Psocid in store.
Aphidius cf. renominatus  ♀︎, ant. 15;  but legs dark & rather large specimen!
Chalcids very abundant:  7 in sucker.
