6th Aug. 1944. 

A very warm "sticky" morning with no wind:  afternoon mainly hot & sunny with cool easterly breeze:  the day spoiled for collecting by rainy-mist early in morning & no drying till afternoon, so that all sweeping impossible till about 3 P.M.  Rode to Louisa Bridge, where met Desmond Meikle, & spent forenoon at Rye Water, later went on to Mr. Mitchell's plantation & collected about there till 5.30 P.M.

Left home at 9.57; arrived Louisa Bridge at 11.10; left for home at 5.40; home at 7.10.  Collected in four area, as follows:-

1 = by Rye Water, chiefly taken off an alder with sucker or net.
2 = by canal & tow path W. of Louisa Bridge & chiefly just W. of plantation.
3 = inside walled plantation (Mr. Mitchell's: Collinstown Ho.)
4 = along canal & towpath & a few in annex to 3 & all E. of plantation.

Many ♂︎ Bombus & Halictus seen, but no Bombus sylvarum, but these not looked for seriously.
