Took a beautiful red moss on rock in stream about 30 ft. above lunch place = 1430 ft. & saw a small patch of Carex paniculata at same place, but higher up ca. 1500 ft. & 50 yards E. of outlet stream from L. Diheen - probably another outlet through the moraine!!! Here also much Sax. stellaris, with S. hypnoides, Narthecium, &c. &c.

Tufts of a dense green liverwort taken off boulder on N.E. side of moraine (around L. Dineen!) at ca. 1600 ft.

Orange red liverwort on a "tussock" on N.E. side of moraine, near small tributary stream in which Epilobium [[strikethrough]] nummularaeofolium [[/strikethrough]] pedunculare grows at 1600 ft. not far below where stream begins to flow on surface.

Empetrium nigrum, sparingly, on shelf of inner moraine N. side of L. Diheen & 30 ft. above lake.

Carex paniculata & C. Goodenowii on slope S. of lake with Sax. hypnoides & form of S. hirta.

Geum rivale seedling with last & many plants seen - some in flower on lower & main cliffs.

Collected moss, &c. at ca. 2000 from streams on cliffs SW of lake for J.N. Halbert, in the hope of getting water mites for him.

10th June 1946.

After a wet & stormy night, misty showers kept everything dripping till midday (Sunday).

In afternoon walked up through the woods, past Mr. Saunders's house (Mr. Sheppard's olim) & across Tipperary road, eastwards along the Slieve-na-muck ridge to Carrigeenina, 1052 ft., & back again. The craggy nature of this ridge, with almost a cliff facing N. of town of Tipperary, clearly indicates that it was not overridden by the ice of Charlesworth's new glaciation, the terminal moraine of which lies just to the north of the ridge, but reaches it at both east & west ends. On way up took an entirely black ♀︎ of Tenthredella livida, one ick = Asthenarus crassifemur Th. ♂︎ ant. 38. [[strikethrough]] Mesoleptun sp. fide J.F.P. [[/strikethrough]] & a Chrysomelid beetle = Chrysomela varians fide E.O'M.

While sitting on a craggy summit of ridge just W. of Carrigeenina saw many ants (Formica fusca) & took one ☿ of Leptothorax acervorum, alt. ca. 1,000 ft.

No rain & much sun in afternoon where we were, but showers on the plain about 6 P.M.
