32. 11.6.46, cont. Coumanare & L. Camclaun, SK., cont. on hillside W. of lake. Next walked across bog to the little Lough Barrot & down slope to Lough Camclaun & had tea amongst rocks on its W. side: very windy here - full gale up lake! - & waves & full lake made investigating difficult & unpleasant, but think we saw quite a lot of Subularia aquatica, though Elatine hexandra eluded us -> Too early for this - unless a Callitriche-like plant is it: this & Subularia I brought away to grow & it subsequently flowered! The upper annex to this lake is almost filled by a bed of Equisetum limosum & in this we started a Teal (female) which from her antics evidently had a brood hidden amongst the Equisetum. Menyanthes, Potamogeton, Littorella, the long-leaved Isoetes & Juncus bulbosus also growing in the lake. On way back to road W. of L. Camclaun again took Geomalacus maculosus - this time a huge specimen - crawling on a rock, in almost the exact spot two taken on the 5th June (p.21) & so home at 7.10 PM. {2 beetles = On the col between Connor Pass & Coumanare the bare ground between the peat bogs is rapidly being colonized by plants, including Sea Pink (Armeria)!! 33. 12th June 1946. A very fine day - the best since we came to Kerry - with NW breeze - all sunny. Too tired & too many things to do to go out for the day: spent morning writing letters & getting things packed up for various persons, but went out at 11.30 to get some Orchis "majalis" for Vermeulen of Amsterdam & after getting five, swept Ins. &c. in fields on left bank of the river that comes down from Faha & here took:- (1) 12.6.46 [12 mounted & these labelled 18.2.1949!] Dryonids 3: 2♂︎♂︎, 1♀︎ = Sawfly Athalia sp. ♂︎, dark apex to front tibiae: not mtd.
