30th June 1947.  

Left Milton of Clova by car at 6:30 A.M. (D.S. time!) & caught 7:20 train at Kirriemuir, changed at Forfar, Perth, Carlisle & Preston & arrived at Liverpool 6:00 P.M.  Went on board the S.S. Louth at 8:15 (B. & I. Line!) & reached North Wall, Dublin at 7:30 on the 1sh July.  Home for breakfast 8:30 A.M.

The first really fine summer day since our return from Scotland.  Very hot sun almost all day, strong warm W.-SW. wind.

Rode, alone, to Gollierstown, Grand Canal, Co. Dublin & collected by sweeping in three areas as follows, but sun too hot & wind too strong for small insects.

1 = Edge of canal & first two [[strikethrough]] three [[/strikethrough]] quarry holes S. of canal & W. of Gollierstown Bridge.

2 = Edge of third quarry hole, W. of station 1 & W. of fence

3 = Edge of old quarry hole on N. side of canal & opposite station 1.

Cryptinids 14, including Atractodes tenebricosus:  not mtd.
Pezomachus cf. microrum Först.  ♀︎, ant. 18;  very short terebra, &c.

Zootrephus suspiciosus?  1: not mtd.
Meloboris sp.  2♂︎♂︎, 2♀︎♀︎, red coxae:  none mtd.
