The first week of June included very bad weather & equally bad as that we had experienced during the four previous years when we were on holiday (Galtee & Aherlov, 1944 + 1945; Kerry 1946 + Ben Lawers, Gerthshire, 1947!) During the present week I was not very well & this coupled with the bad & cold weather explains the absence of notes on collecting! A.W.S. 6.6.1948.

9th June 1948. The third fine day in succession & the best for some time. Mainly sunny in forenoon, dull in afternoon, with E. wind - strong in afternoon in Glenasmole.

Drove in afternoon to Glenasmole & walked up E. side of upper reservoir (in shelter) to see hybrid rose (canina x tomentosa?) which was in full flower & a splendid sight with its very large, bicoloured, & beautifully scented flowers. Noted that the clump of spinosissima x tomentosa on left bank of R. Dodder just above Mr. Doyle's had been entirely burnt in a gorse fire not long before, but not dead!

Swept insects in two places, as follows:-
1= by path from lodge to upper dam
2= by path along E. side of upper reservoir + on shore of same above St. Anne's church.
