8th July 1948.

A cold windy day, with hot sunbursts; wind northerly & strong; after several dull days with some drizzle. Not an insect day & few small hymenoptera obtainable. Thursday.

In afternoon drove to Leixlip (Louisa Bridge) & arrived there 3.30 P.M., swept till 5 P.M. by the Rye Water (right bank) & on slope above same but very draughty & little out. No sign of Coelinius collaris miki, both sexes of which taken here on 5.7.1942. Had cup of afternoon tea at 5 P.M. & then drove on to 13th lock = Deey Lock, 1 mile W. of Louisa Bridge & swept tow path &c. between lock & Collinstown House & also plantation by canal, but very little out except "flies" in spite of shelter & hot sun. Saw only two cleggs all afternoon, though this should be the height of their season. Left for home about 6.15 & reached home 6.50.
