th April 1949. Gale continued all night & in forenoon but died down about midday; forenoon sunny with a few skiffs; afternoon almost continuous & heavy showers as wind went round from SW to NW., colder.

th April '49. A calm day with sharply rising glass after gale, & a fine morning after a starry night but wind went S.E. about noon & rain started at 12.30 & continued until midnight, getting heavier & heavier as day advanced. Cut front grass before rain & in back noted garden that frog had laid several batches of sparn along motor house wall beneath drip from roof between door to garden & Westfield Road wall. First white "garden" Saxifrage (Mossy) out in front garden, but most bits not even yet in bud, though the red mossy now full out & one patch nearly over. The early patch of Clare Island Sax. rosacea in W. bed front garden practically in flower, though buds only appeared a few days before. Glass falling heavily all afternoon & evening! No wind

th April '49. A most beautiful summer morning & forenoon, but SE wind arose about mid day & caused a jam later, so that afternoon was almost entirely dull & chilly. Left home in car at 3.30 & drove to foot of Glenasmole & walked to upper dam & back to car. Chiffchaff heard, but no sign of Willow Warlber or any of the Swallow tribe - dull & cold!

th & 8th April 1949. Cold, windy & dull.

th April (Sat.) All sunny in forenoon, with gentle NW. wind. Afternoon gradually darkening, with rising SW wind when we rode to Harold's Cross Bridge & then up Grand Canal to Clondalkin & so home. Very hot sun at first, but mainly dull after 3.30 P.M. Canal now nearly all built around as far as Inchmore Bridge, but its margin luckily turned into kind of public park & houses on N. side facing S instead of having their back garden up against it.

th April 1949. A poor morning with some drizzle after rain at night. In afternoon drove to Brittan pond & walked up to cut between Slieve Thoule & Cupidston Hill - Daisy, I & Marcus Graham. On outward journey saw one Swallow near Jobstown, by which time wind had almost reached gale force & rain blew in the wind. Heavier drizzle later in afternoon. New plantation of Pine (? Scots Pine) badly "browned" & looking very sick, but Larch just coming into leaf & looks all right.

th April. Mild & damp, with slight drizzle off & on all day & some faint sun. Saw several [[female]] wasps (either V. germanica [[?]]) during sunbursts at 10.30 AM. on the way back from Mr. Dugdale's at Park Drive.
