12th April 1949.

Very mild, almost warm with strong SW. wind & rain or drizzle blowing in the wind all day although sun often nearly out. In afternoon walked to Rathmines, on to Dartry, up Dodder to Orwell Bridge & so home.

In garden first flower on a wild mossy Saxifrage out - one of Winders Kerry plants-; Arctostaphylos & Andromeda in flower, Carex montana, & Faris's little Salix cf. repens x? in flower, the latter turning out to be a ♂︎ (& not as I hoped a ♀︎).

13th April 1949.

Fresher & drier than 12th. A lovely day & nearly all sunny, but very strong S.W. wind.

In afternoon drove to foot of Glenasmole where left car & walked up to upper dam & back to car. Tried sweeping by roadside along lower reservoir (= 1) & found many small hymenoptera out where sheltered from the wind. The following insects swept:-
