4th May 49.

The second nearly all sunny day in succession. But unlike 3rd wind W. instead of E. & much softer, but glass falling steadily & heavily & wind rising in afternoon & clouds dominant after 4 P.M. Skiff of rain at 7.

Left home in car at 2.15 & drove to W. edge of new reservoir in Kings River Valley, Co. WI. via the new Baltyboys Bridge: left car about 1 1/2 miles S. of now submerged Burgage Bridge & collected by sweeping along roadside (a little!) & in fields & drains along margin of reservoir, where in latter place most of the insects taken were collected. Saw patch of Geum rivale in flower in lane from road to shore of lake. John Palmer & his wife being with us & he picked up many fragments of crayfish on the marshy foreshore of the lake, but whether fished up & eaten by herons, rats or what there was no evidence.
