23rd August 1949.

A very hot but perfect day, with pleasant easterly breeze, after a foggy night & misty morning. Thunderstorms about since 21st but none in Wicklow Mts.

Left home in car (Daisy, I & J. P. Brunker) about 10.10 AM & drove to head of Kings River Valley where left car (as on 10th Aug. p.296). Walked N. along tributary stream on to coll W. of Thonelagee [[Tonelagee]] & down cliffs SW. of L. Ouler, seeing quite a lot of Salix herbacea on highest granite scarp. Had lunch about 1.20 overlooking lake & after lunch swept rushy marshes at foot of cliffs & S. of lake for an hour. Then had another look at Saussurea alpina which seemed much refreshed after recent rains, swept a rushy marsh in main gully at 2,200 ft. & came out of corrie by mica-schist scarp slanting S.W. seeing one large patch of Vacc. Vitis Idaea &, near topmost craggs, more Salix herbacea; all on schist. In crossing the big gully at 2,200 ft. saw one plant of Cystopteris fragilis (confirmed & noted by Brunker). Crossed col & back to car about 5 P.M. Had tea, left for home about 5.20 & home 6.30 P.M.
