23rd Sept. 1949. 

A very beautiful day;  nearly all sunny after 10 AM following some days of east wind & much rain with SE. wind on 22nd - the first really wet day for some time. 

In afternoon drove to Deey Lock on Royal Canal, W. of Louisa Bridge, Co. KD., & collected by sweeping in two fields between canal and Maynooth road as often before and as follows:-

1 = W.& S. sides of 3rd field W. of Louisa Bridge;  nearly all insects taken along hedge on W. side of field, in first year hay this season.
2 = amongst turnips & beet, & along S. side of 2nd field W. of Louisa Bridge.

Saw many Common Blue butterflies along the path of canal; Aeschna grandis (1) and Bombus sylvarum (1♂︎).
