16.) 28th Sept. 1949. Another perfect day after a misty morning. Drove to Buckroney, Brittas Bay, WI., with J.P. Brunker & his niece Nora Brunker. Left home 10:40 arrived Buckroney about noon & took our lunch to coast across the dune. Swept dune before & after lunch, as well as scrub & edge of lagoon (quite dry!), but Hymenoptera almost entirely absent. Just before leaving tried the edge of the marsh (7 insects taken here labelled "Buckroney M.") W. of road & found it equally unprofitable. Left for home at 4:15 & reached Dunran about 5 P.M. when the old car suddenly "konked", the drive from engine to half-time shaft having broken down due to perishing of fiber cog-wheel in gearing of same. Subsequently towed to McCormick's garage at Newtown mountkennedy & came home by bus at 7:55. Home 9:10 P.M. Insects swept on dunes & around lagoon, Buckroney, Co. WI.
