30th June 1950 (Friday). 

A very fine sunny day with showers & strong wind from SW., but no shower of any consequence where we were.  Wind & sun too strong for small insects, but a lovely fresh day to be in the field!

Left home about 11 AM. & drove to Louisa Bridge on Royal Canal above Leixlip, Co. Kildare.  Collected for 1 hour before lunch on upper flat between road & the Rye Water, N. of canal (= 1)

30.6.50, cont.  Rye Water & Royal Canal, KD., cont.

& for 1 1/2 hours after lunch on lower flat (marsh) on rt. brank of Rye Water & in field next to N. of canal strip (= 2).  

Later walked on to 2nd field (cut hay!) W. of Louisa Bridge & between canal and Maynooth road & after cup of tea swept in shelter of hedge along W. side of the field for 1 1/2 hours (= 3).  Left for home about 5.15 & home just before 6 P.M.

Rye Water, Co. KD.

= (1), 30.6.50.  Collected (or seen) on upper flat N. of canal & next Maynooth road, right bank of Rye Water.  12 noon till 1.0 P.M.  Most insects taken along hedge on NW side of flat where there was complete shelter: none taken near swamp next canal.

Bombus sylvarum  2 rather faded ♀︎♀︎ seen on bramble flowers within six inches of each other
B. agrorum, muscorum & lucorum (1) ☿☿ seen.
Psithyrus campestris  1♀︎ of pale form seen.
Odynerus pictus  ♂︎ & sinuatus  ♂︎ (2 of each) & O. parietinum  ♀︎.
Megachile  ♂︎ on yellow Composite flower.
Crabro  on elder leaf.
Pemphredon  about elders, in hedge.
