5th July 1952.

Entirely sunny but this tempered by a fresh easterly wind, unlike the 4th when wind was westerly.

Daisy, I & Marcus Graham took 9.35 bus to Edramucky & walked to N. end of Lochan-na-Lairige & Marcus & I went up to the highest cliff at N. end of Craig-an-Lochan & then worked back along the cliffs to outlet of lochan & so back to bus at 5.45 & Lawers at 6.0 P.M. Reached cliffs at noon.

The northern cliffs very rich in mosses & literally draped in places with Dryas octopetala, but some of the plants which grow at southern end of the range absent from the northern end or at least not seen by me. The only new plant seen was on one of the highest cliffs - Poa glauca? & possibly Chrysosplenium alternifolium - Yes! under a large boulder NW. of the head of the Lochan. The snails Arianta arbustorum, Hygromia hispida & Clausilia bidentata on cliffs at about 2,200 ft.

5.7.52 P.M.

Graham & I went out about 9.45 & swept the lane to pier &, I, especially under cherry & ash tree in grass plot at foot of lane W. of the ruined houses - the old village of Lawers, which remind me of the "Cold Lairs" in Kipling's stories of Mowgli in The Jungle Book. Here took many insects!
