Swept for a minute under birches at Rannoch station & took one Ich. & one Braconid only:- Cteniscus ♂︎ - ant. 28. & a ♀︎ Pentapleura pumilio - ant. 19.; & swept quite a lot crossing the moor towards the Lochan - mostly amongst Bog Myrtle - but the only thing of interest taken was a ♀︎ Orgilus (?scabriceps Graham MS.), a stone-fly & a small jumping beetle. A beetle of the Malthodes group occurred here in great abundance. Trichiosoma ♀︎ taken on railway under birch & rowan = T. latreillei Leach (Benson)? Tabanid Fly = on moor! Large Heath Butterfly very common on Rannoch Moor. Andrena tarsata ♂︎ Rannoch Loch. 1st July 1953. Equally hot & sunny after a cool misty forenoon. Went with Marcus Graham by 9.35 bus to Killin, but in haste forgot net — so had to return to Lawers for it & only reached Killin again at 12.40 noon, but in meantime spent an hour in the glen at Lawers (= 1). On arrival at Killin went down the road to Old Pier, found M.G. & had lunch under trees S. of level crossing & later swept around the pool (= 2) & later still swept under the limes just E. of the wooden bridge over R. Lochay (= 3) where M.G. had swept before noon. 126. 1.7.53. cont. Glen below road at Lawers, MP. Insects taken at 1. 10.30-11.30 AM. [22 mounted & these labelled Sept. 1953.] Phaeogenid? ♀︎ not mtd. Cryptinids 18: none mtd. Cteniscids 2: not mtd. Mesoleids? 3: one mtd. = Mesoleius sp. ♂︎, ant. 38. Tryphon? 1: not mtd. Polyblastid? = Monoblastus erythropygus?? 7 (♂︎ & ♀︎): six mtd., ant. 30, 30, 32, 32, 32 & 33. Homocidus pectoratorius large ♂︎: not mtd. Orthocentrus frontator? ♂︎, ant. 29. Stenomacrus curvicaudatus ♂︎, ant. 26. Mesochorus ♀︎: not mtd. Exothecid ♀︎ = Colastes braconius 1 very small ♀︎, ant. bitten off at 19th seg. Blacus tuberculatus ♀︎ not mtd. Diospilus capito ♀︎, not mtd. Opius saevus Hal.? Ant. 33. O. "cingulatus miki" 3: 1♀︎ mtd., ant. 33. O. cf. flexuosus m. ♀︎, ant. 26. O. cf. communis [not stenops!] 2♀︎♀︎, ant. 24. Orthostigma sp. ♂︎, ant. 22. Aspilota fuscescens m. A fine robust ♀︎, ant. 18. Also a small ♂︎ & 2 very small ♀︎♀︎, ant. 22 (♂︎), 16 & 17 (♀︎♀︎) probably only starved specimens of same species
