173. 22nd July '53. A showery day, but considerable fine periods & some sun at times. Went by 12 noon bus to Killin & returned by 5:30 bus to Lawers. Collected in three areas as follows:- 1. = under the limes from 12-30 till 1.10 P.M. & again from 4.30 till 5.30 P.M. 2. = Between road & railway, & along roadside, E. of the limes; where much Salix, Alder & Birch, with Carex vesicaria, &. 1.30-3.30 P.M. 3 = Marshy field & around the pond S. of the railway; but the Glyceria bed in which I formerly got some good things completely eaten down by cattle. 3.30-4.30 P.M. Killin, M.P. Insects taken at 1. [74 mounted including those found loose in box on arrival in Dublin / see foot of page 176: these last are all labelled [MP. ?Killin AWS (1)22.7.53.] & I believe all came from here] Dryinid ♂︎. Phaeogenid: gen. et sp.? 2♀︎♀︎, ant. 20 & 21 = Cryptinids, ca. 25, but only 9 mtd. as follows:- Phygadeuon cf. gravenhorsti 3♀︎♀︎, ant. 18 & 19(2). Ph. sp. ♀︎ fully winged, ant. 19. Hemiteles cf. inimicus ♀︎, ant. 23. H. apertus Th. ♂︎ (damaged!) Atractodes sp. 2♂︎♂︎, ant. 21 & 22. Gen. et sp.? ♂︎, ant. 23. A. sp. ♀︎, ant. 19. Stenomacrus cf. deletus 1♂︎, very pale, ant. 27. This could be a ♂︎ Picrostigeus? St. (Neurateles) laevissimus m. ♀︎, ant. 21. St. minutus? ♀︎, ant. 18; also 3♂︎♂︎ possibly same species, ant. 21, 23 & broken. Mesoleius sp. ♂︎, ant. 42. Absyrtus luteus ♀︎, ant. 42. Mesochorus sp. 3♂︎♂︎, ant. 36, 37 & 39; the last larger & all red mesonotum. Porizonid ♀︎, ant. 30 cf. series of ♀︎♀︎ from Athdown, Co. Wicklow! = Campoplegid (cf. Angitia?) ♀︎, ant. 26, long terebra = Campoplegid (cf. ?) ♀︎, ant. 32, short terebra = Plectiscus sp. ♀︎, ant. 23. Aperileptus sp. ♀︎, ant. 21. Rogas cf. circumscriptus, pale ♂︎, ant. 38. A. tumida m. ♀︎, ant. 19: nice specimen! Also a smaller ♀︎, ant. 17. A. cf. picticornis 2♀︎♀︎, large head, ant. 16 & 17; this rather than fuscicornis? A. cf. fuscescens? or picticornis? 1♂︎, ant. 19; spiracles of tergite 1 very thorn-like! A. (Synaldis) spp. 2♀︎♀︎, ant. 17 & 19. Phaenocarpa picinervis ♂︎ & Ph. ruficeps ♀︎: neither mtd.
