9th June 1954.

Having failed on 22.6.1953 to find the Fly Orchid in the great marsh of Morristownbiller 2 miles W. of Newbridge, Co. Kildare, I had arranged to take J.P. Brunker back earlier this year & we went today (Daisy, I & Brunker). Left home at 10.30 arrived Morristownbiller [Biller being a local name for Watercress, which plant is abundant around the great springs feeding the marsh & Grand Canal] at 11.35, where left car & walked down old lane to the marsh. Collected by sweeping in the lane on way down to marsh (11.40-12.10 noon) & again on return to car 3.30-4.0 P.M.; & before lunch (12.10 till 12.50 noon) & after lunch (1.30 till 3.30 P.M.) in various places in the marsh (E. side before lunch!) & along W. side of the main channel S. of position of lane (after lunch). We did not find the Fly Orchid. None of the many orchis seen on 22.6.53 seen today except one Twayblade & 1/2 a mile N.W-wards a colony of O. traunsteineroides Pugsley found by Brunker. My own chief object was to get more specimens of my new species, Dacnusa coracina of which I took a ♀︎ here on 22.6.53, on which day I only used one sucker & consequently did not know whether it was swept in the lane or in the marsh, though believed to have come from the latter. Since then the main arterial channel has been "cleaned" & the place I collected it possibly temporarily much changed.
