1897 Dec 8: The "See last page" note refers to the handwritten memo on yellow Treasury paper, previously transcribed as Page 217 of 219 of the Mint Accounts Book (https://transcription.si.edu/transcribe/9626/NMAH-AHB2017q025217). Short version: Outerbridge found the die, 80+ years old and obscured by paint, being used as a paperweight in a law office. 1899: transcribed place names as written, although "Porto Ricco" = Puerto Rico and "Beunes Ayres" = Buenos Aires.
