Mr. Rene Seligmann,
Hotel Blackstone,
Chicago, Ill.

Dear Mr. Seligmann,

I just had a visit of Mr. Reginald Poland, a director of the San Diego Fine Arts Museum who came to find out if we could not loan the museum some works of art for their grand opening which is going to take place next month. He showed mee the photographs of the museum, and it is really done on a grand scale ffor a city of only 120,000 inhabitants. The museum was given by a Mrs. Brickely (?) and there seems to be a great many rich people in San Diego who are fond of Spanish art.

Mr. Poland asked if we could send these things free of charge and insurance. I told him that I thought we could. He would like to know before he goes west of your decision, as the works of art would have to leave about the 20th of January in order to reach San Diego early next month.

He leaves tonight for Detroit. You may remember that he was also connected with the museum in Detroit before going to the Pacific coast. He seems to be very friendly with Dr. Valentiner, so I think you would like to communicate with him before he leaves Detroit, addressing him at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Mr. Poland leaves Detroit on the 8th, so you may have to send him a night telegram to reach him.

The objects he selected are the following:
(provided you can approve sending all or part of them)
Painting by Terborch
Statue of the Virgin from Toledo
2 Spanish Candlesticks-wrought iron
Hispano Mauresque Jug with 4 handles
The 2 stirrups.
Hispano Mauresque Capital in Marble.
The silver bust
I received a cable from Mr. Germain asking us to
