My dear Oscar:

I have this day recommended you on a List as a Captain in the Liberian Frontier Force. If you desire to try for it, make your application to "Mr. F.C. Mitchell, Commissioner Genl. and Actg. General Receiver of Customs for the Republic of Liberia, c/o 3rd Asst. Secy. of State, Washington, D.C. Give your education, service, age, qualifications and any recommendations you may have.

I feel that whether I go or not you can do good and constructive work and would therefore love to see you have the position. It pay $1900 a year.

Don't, don't, don't think of marrying ^[[yet]] or taking any woman with you as a handicap. Of course I can't say whether or no you will land job.
