Hoags Back Yard In Baraboo 1:00 P.M.

April 16, 1902
This noon as I was going to school I stopped to watch two Robins.
[[marginalia]] a bath for the birds [[/marginalia]] In the backyard the faucet runs a little all the time and drips into a box. It is left this way for the birds.
[[marginalia]] actions while bathing [[/marginalia]] These Robins ran up there and without hesitation stepped in and began to bathe. They would put their heads in the water and then splash with their wings. They seemed to enjoy it greatly.
[[marginalia]] method of running [[/marginalia]] They have a curious habit of progressing. One will put its head down and run a few feet and then straighten up and look around after which the action is repeated.

Transcription Notes:
Margin notes arranged against relevant section in the text. The margin note is effectively a reference to the text, which it seems clear is what Wetmore meant to do.
