On Water Works Island In Baraboo 4:40 P.M.

April 23, 1902
This afternoon I was down on the Water Works Island. Myrtle Warblers were common.
[[marginalia]] food [[/marginalia]] They were feeding on the swarms of little gnats that hovered everywhere.
[[marginalia]] catching it [[/marginalia]] I saw one fly for about 11 rods through a field catching them in the air. It zigzagged every way.
[[marginalia]] note [[/marginalia]] It kept about four feet about ground and gave a note like [[underlined]] chis. [[/underlined.
[[marginalia]] on ground [[/marginalia]] In another place the insects could not keep above ground because of the wind and the Myrtle hopped around after them. Making extremely bright spots on the earth. They picked around as if it was their only method of feeding.
