April 27, 1902
This morning Mr. Champion and I were down in the fields. Heard a queer loud whistled call and could not think what it was. [[marginalia]] queer call [[/marginalia]] It came again and I knew at once that it was a quail. It was very different from the usual whistled Bob-white. Afterwards several flew out of our brush-pile and lit in another.
