This morning I went up on Oak Hill. Found a Cooper Hawk's nest and shot at the old one but missed. The nest was 25 or thirty feet up in an oak and contained two eggs and a young one about a week old. It disliked to be handled and although alert showed no fear.

Saw and heard a number of Chestnut-sided Warblers but they were difficult to locate. They hardly ever came below the middle of the trees and when I approached usually ceased singing. They were found around old clearings and small openings in the trees.
