June 9 II

Bird back at nest covered with damp n.m. Stands, preens, looks alert and flies off 5:27

Variant of aerial LCN is "hee-ee" almost bisyllabic.

More birds arriving now. Including courting pairs. 5:33 Courting pairs seem very mobile. Flying away soon.

[] !! [] CC. call could be transcribed as very long "how" or "how-ow-ow-ow-ow" (syllabic division very slight indeed).

[] !! [] Watching Swoop-Soar pattern. Usual CC is "haaaaah haaaaah haaaaaah haaaaaah...." changing to shriller "heee-ee-eee Areeeeeee" etc, at climax of charge.

Series, at high intensity aerial is probably

[] !!!! [] "Kaaaaah" [] "heeeeeeeeeee" [] kuh-kh-kh-kaaaaauh" [] "ha-ha-ka-ha-ha-ha" Increasing aggressiveness (Two intermediate stages are not quite comparable. "Keeeeeeeeeeee" (with quaver) is really an intermediate stage, although, perhaps, closer to CC., but the "kuh-kh-kh-haaauh" type call is really a rapid alternation of AC and CC.

Still dull 5:57.

Can be "kh-haaauk" or "kuh-kh-kh-kh kauh" etc, as well as "kuh-kh-kh-kh-kh-hanh"
