Rhamphocelus [[Ramphocelus]], Mar. 20, 1961, II.

excitedly around in nearby bushes. Uttering perfectly typical "Auh" Notes as she does so. Such "Auh"s are almost certainly hostile.

When the female behaves in this way, she is sometimes joined by the male. He also utters lots of "Auh"s in such circumstances. Also MCN's when he comes particularly close to the female.

I rather think that the ACN's of this species must be largely or completely homologous with the "chauh" notes of Blue Tanagers and the harsher "Whit" CN's of Palm Tanagers, and that the PCN's of this species must be largely or completely homologous with the SN's of the Blue and Palm Tanagers.

Rhamphocelus [[Ramphocelus]], I.

March 23, 1961
Barro Colorado

I went down to watch the A pair again early this morning about 1/2 hour after dawn, and found them behaving very much like last year.

When I first arrived, the male was sitting quietly, in an apparently unritualized posture, uttering single APCN's occasionally interrupted by a single ACN or a single PCN.

Then he began to utter PCN-ACN-PCN-ACN-PCN-ACN...... (There were real ACN's, not APCN's).

Then he flew to the other side of the cage and landed beside the female. One or both birds uttered wheezy MCN's, without special ritualized postures or movements.

Then the male flew away and sat by himself again, and began to utter single APCN's again.
