Rhamphocelus, Jun. 16, 1961, II

This might suggest that the male has some independent singing drive, which has to be satisfied even if the female is nearby.

Both birds, especially the female, flying about cage actively now, 6:10. Quite a lot of ACN's (by female?). No PCN's.

Male briefly assumes Pre-Cop Postures twice when near female, 6:11, tries to mount once. Female flies away both times. Male then starts more "Keeyoo" singing immediately.

Male now assuming Pre-Cop Postures every time he gets close to the female. This is usually accompanied by MCN's - by female, I think. In any case, he doesn't manage to mount.

Once, at least, the male does extreme Wars with the wing away the female lifted.

Male still doing a lot of "Keeyoo" singing in intervals of Pre-Cop Postures and feeding 6:17 a.m.

I am not sure if the female has assumed a Pre-Cop Posture yet this morning or not.

Male lands beside female, assumes extreme St Postures (without TU or BL or BF or Wass) three times, very briefly. Then flies away. Lowest intensity indications of Pre-Cop Posture? Or more strongly hostile?

I think that the usual low intensity indication of the Pre-Cop Posture is TU & BL, with only slight St, and no more than the merest trace (if that) of BF.

Now male is doing "Keeyoo" singing in an ordinary setting posture, but with moderately extreme BF!

I now (6:30) that the male tends to have BF constantly wherever he sits quietly, even when he is not doing "Keeyoo" singing.

And BF's seem to accompany all his Pre-Cop Postures - even the
